This little guy gave all of the looks! Typically, newborns are fast asleep 90% of the session, but this guy was so alert and ready to play. I have to say, this is one of my favorite sessions. He was just so.stinkin.cute.!

A few weeks back, I posted a sneak peek of my first session back after stay-at-home orders were lifted.

I typically would not do a newborn sessions outside. It’s outside of my normal, which means it’s outside of my comfort zone, but I was determined that this would work. We’re in a new world since the pandemic and it’s time to adjust or get out of the lane. So, I decided to adjust and boy, when I tell you expanding your comfort levels is an incredible feeling (on the other side of it!)… truly, it’s a boost.

I absolutely adored working with this family in the tulip fields. Going back through this session, when it’s this hot outside now, makes me appreciate Spring time in Texas so much more! As a native Chicagoan, these Texas summers are so much more brutal than I ever realized and I’m not too sure I’ll ever get used to it. But, then again, I’ve had conversations with clients that grew up in the Dallas area that swear ‘when I was a kid, it wasn’t this hot’ so I’m not convinced anyone gets used to it!

I think I’ve watched this movie a million times by now, but that quote sat with me a little different this time. I just finished cleaning up the house moments before the movie started and we already had popcorn all over the floor. To say I was frustrated, was an understatement. So often we feel like the only safe space in the entire world for our baby is in our arms, and our arms alone. We mothers tend to do this most. We carry this burden of being the sole protector, provider, entertainer, sole resource for a tiny human who needs so much more than we could ever provide alone. And it weighs on us. Oh my gosh, does it weigh on us! We think about it while we’re doing dishes for the first time in 4 days because the baby wouldn’t stop crying every time you put her down. We think about it during our first shower in 7 days because you’re just too exhausted by the end of the day to do yet one more thing. We think about it when we get in our car and go back for our first day back to work. Heck, we even cry in the bathroom about it an hour into the shift.
