Spring time cannot come soon enough. I know everyone is very much ready for the cold and storm threats to pass so we can move into the beautiful Spring time we all know and love. Bluebonnets, where you at?!

Families with young kiddos, I almost always recommend a field session to allow your little ones to have the space and freedom to play and adjust for the smoothest session possible. We can run around the field together as I build their trust, take plenty of breaks throughout the session for them to get all of the wiggles out as they need, and explore the great outdoors together. I encourage my families with older kiddos and toddlers to choose a field session for a few reasons. One is that they can run around and be silly to get some of their energy out and gain trust with me. Taking a few minutes to gently allow kids to warm up to me makes a huge difference, and allowing them some wide open space to be silly is every kid’s dream!

I came across an infographic on a popular minimalist’s social media platform that compared the cost of things that are good for us to the cost of something maybe not so great and how we justify it.

For example:

Cost of seeing a therapist/$200 ~ “no way, too expensive”

Cost of a regular Target trip/$200 ~ “Look at all the things I got”

The perspective shift is so important to remember! I regularly find myself now comparing cost of things to a ‘regular’ Target haul & boy it’s a bit eye opening.

I’m often told that my prices are ‘too expensive’ and while I certainly know I’m not the cheapest photographer around, I do know that the quality that I deliver warrants the cost. When you stop and compare the price of family portraits to say, how much you spend at Starbucks weekly & do some math, I think you’ll realize just how quickly that money could be set aside for a much better purpose.

I love this Brené Brown. She has a ton of great nuggets of wisdom that I can really mull over in my mind throughout the day and I absolutely love that. The quote above hits like a ton of bricks on the hard days. The days we forget gratitude and paying attention.

I like to circle back to it frequently lately as we enter the different phases of quarantine. Some days are full of gratitude and others it’s hard to remember what that feels like.

Through it all, practicing gratitude has been a form of therapy. If you’re into that, one little trick I read by Tim Ferris is think of someone you wish well, and focus for 5-10 seconds on wishing that person well. Do it every few hours and wow it can feel great!

Still reeling a bit at the realization that we’re in the final stretch of 2020, holidays are right around the corner, and we’re so many months into a pandemic but still moving forward with precautions. I think if you sit on the thought of it all a little too long, the overwhelm begins to creep in. I think as women, we tend to keep our plates full to help keep us busy so we don’t necessarily have time to sit and think too long to be overwhelmed.
