Plano Newborn Portrait Photographer

It has been a little bit since I’ve shared a newborn lifestyle session on the blog and today’s is a treat! I thought I would share a few tips to help prepare for a lifestyle session, before the session.

1) Hire someone to clean. I know it’s an investment to have family portraits done, so I always encourage families to hire a service to take care of cleaning the home, so it’s one less thing on the to-do list. This is especially helpful when you have a newborn and toddler.

2) Put away any items you would not want photographed. I know that sounds obvious, but if you step into a room and see anything on a surface, go ahead and clear it off. I promise, the clear surface will make a huge difference in lifestyle photos. Unless it’s decorative and sentimental, I encourage you put it away for the day.

3) Don’t worry about the little ones. I know it’s stressful in general to have photos taken, but I promise, the more you allow me to guide the session along, the easier the session will be for YOU! If one of the children get fussy, it’s ok! We can switch it up with parents and rooms and there is plenty of time to pause for a breather.

Outdoor Cake Smash Photo Session

Another #TBT for you with this CUTE AS CAN BE outdoor cake smash photo session this past Winter with little man! I cannot handle how sweet that crown is.

Cake smash sessions do not have to be in the studio, they can absolutely be out in the field, as well (depending on the time of year, of course, with this Texas heat!). Now, I’m not featuring the family portion of this photo session today, but a milestone session for a little one will always include family and all of the combinations of family members before we let little babes dive into their cakes. Family Photography Studio Near Me

No one really explained just how much the world shifts when you bring another baby into the family. When we have our first, ALL of the time is devoted to them and then to suddenly have to figure out how to split your time and attention is a huge adjustment and I know a lot of mama’s struggle with the ‘balancing act’ of multiple children. These little ones depend on everything from us, and I know how overwhelming that can be.

Frisco Cake Smash Photographer

My heart goes out to the moms who have had babies the last 2ish years. Motherhood, especially in the first year or so, can feel so lonely and I can just imagine just much harder it was with the pandemic going on.

These little ones have experienced a life completely different from what you and I grew up in, no doubt about it. I wonder what they will say about their childhood as they grow up, honestly.

Anyway, off of that little thought train! This cake smash was a hit with big sister & I love the crown! It’s everything a little princess needs. It’s hard to believe another membership baby has been born and turned a whole year, already!

Frisco Tx Family Photos

I’ve noticed a trend in family photos that I’ve liked to address. I see a trend where the older the children get, the less families are likely to invest in regular family portraits. Sure, you have your fall family photos, but I don’t see nearly as many families any other time of the year unless it’s with a newborn or belly.

I have a few theories on why this is.

1) the older they get, the more likely they are in extracurriculars and schedules get full, fast. Especially with multiple children. I get that, but think that’s even more of a reason to put emphasis on documenting the older years just as much as the little ones.

2) newborns = a new chapter in life. Once you’re doing having children, I think most families look at the whole childhood as ‘one chapter’ and see the next chapter of life being when the kids leave the house. While that’s an understandable view, I’d argue that every year brings new experiences and the landscape of your family changes over that time dramatically. You know how fast it goes and only have a little bit of time left realistically with the unit you’ve created.

I have a few others, but will save those for another time. For now, enjoy this beautiful family in some of the most gorgeous blooms of the year. This session brought me so much joy.
