You blink a time too many and suddenly the rolls they had on their little arms or legs are gone. The way they smile lights up the room in a totally new and beautiful way. Oooooh, my goodness would you just look at this little girl! She was one of my last newborn sessions of 2020 and such a pleasure to have to my studio! She was such a little angel for us and mom & dad opted to use wardrobe provided by my studio closet to make for an easy-going, relaxed session. Just what new parents need.

The smallest details won’t stick in your memory. They’re just too small to hold on to and change so quickly, but newborn portraits within the first few weeks of your baby’s life will help you see those little details for the rest of your life.

Dallas Tx Family Photography | Studio Family Session

I came across an infographic on a popular minimalist’s social media platform that compared the cost of things that are good for us to the cost of something maybe not so great and how we justify it.

For example:

Cost of seeing a therapist/$200 ~ “no way, too expensive”

Cost of a regular Target trip/$200 ~ “Look at all the things I got”

The perspective shift is so important to remember! I regularly find myself now comparing cost of things to a ‘regular’ Target haul & boy it’s a bit eye opening.

I’m often told that my prices are ‘too expensive’ and while I certainly know I’m not the cheapest photographer around, I do know that the quality that I deliver warrants the cost. When you stop and compare the price of family portraits to say, how much you spend at Starbucks weekly & do some math, I think you’ll realize just how quickly that money could be set aside for a much better purpose.

Maternity Photography Studio Near Me | Dallas Area Maternity Session

I came across an article recently that shared some of the best gifts to get new and expecting parents during Covid that I thought had some great suggestions. Below are some of my favorites that I hadn’t thought about before. For the full article, click here.

1. Meal Kit delivery! Home Chef is recommended in this article, but there are so many out there now.

2. Grocery delivery. Order fresh produce and staple items for your new mom friends! There is nothing worst than realizing you’re out of all of the staples and need to go to the store, and the thought of getting out of the house seems like an entire mission. Help a girl out, send her love in the form of groceries.

3. Gift cards to her favorite restaurants. A meal or two on you from her favorite place will be eaten with so much gratitude.

4. A baby carrier. Everyone needs their hands. Baby wearing will be life changing, I promise.

5. Diapers, diapers, diapers. Always diapers.

Plano Photography Studio | Family Photographer

Because of Covid precautions, most sessions have been outdoors this year and I have to say, having a studio session this time around was a nice little change of scenery! While I love my outdoor sessions, there’s something about the simple white background that helps breathe some new creativity into me.

Studio sessions are perfect for those super snuggly shots. There’s nothing quite as cute as piling a family on top of one another and inducing all of the tickle giggle smiles! I have some toys available for kiddos, as well, to help keep them entertained when it’s not their time to be in front of the camera, which helps the session flow right along.

Plano Maternity Session | Maternity Photo Session

One of the saddest things I’m told so often is ‘I wish I had taken maternity photos.’

Here’s a few obvious reasons why it’s so sad:

• You can never get that time back. Once it’s gone, it’s gone.

• Read the first one

• Read that again.

That’s it. That’s THE obvious reason it’s so sad! We can never get that time back. That means not having photos to pass down to your babies. That means not having those memories documented. I know someone who had her baby prematurely at 24 weeks and has only 2 photos of her pregnant, and she was barely showing. Those TWO images are all she has to show her 7 year old daughter now.

Don’t knock it to the bottom of your to-do list. Schedule it now. You’ll thank me later, even if it’s not with me!

I’ve seen quite a few older kids and newborns, so it was fun having an older baby in the studio for this session! His little smile is just the best, right?!

Milestone sessions with your babies at 9-18 months are so fun. Your baby is moving and grooving by then, smiling, cooing, and lots of personality is starting to shine! While I love my newborns, something about older babies that tugs at my heart.
